COVENANT TYPES

Should I ask, if you were in covenant with anyone, what would say? Most people would probably say no, because they don't associate the word covenant with their everyday lives, when in fact it's more common than you think. If you are married, you have a covenant with your spouse. It you are in business with a partner, you have a covenant that is better known as a contract. So, we see that a covenant is between two (2) people, who decide to come in agreement with each other for a common purpose. Consider the definition below:

COVENANT: noun:
1. an agreement, usually formal, between two or more persons to do or not do something specified.

Unfortunately, everyone, who enters in a covenant is not faithful or decides to bail out at some point. It's uncertain if that's because the person can't be faithful; or because he or she doesn't want to be faithful to another! It's important that you really know the person and his/her character; or know someone, who does. Entering into any type of covenant or bond with another person (e,g, an engagement that leads to marriage) is not wise unless, the other person has been honest with you and revealed his or her heart, true character and motives. Today, there are many people, who perpetrate being someone and something they are not. They deceive others just to get something they think they should have; but don't really deserve.

Covenants don't only play an important in our everyday lives; but also in our spiritual lives. Take a look at the definition below and notice the difference in this covenant.

COVENANT: noun

Bible.: a. the conditional promises made to humanity by God, as revealed in Scripture.

  • The Scriptures tell us that God was in covenant with ancient Israel; but today He still desires to be in covenant with those, who love and believe in Him and His Son Jesus Christ (Malachi 3:6)
  • An important element in the ancient covenant was circumcision. Our forefather, Abraham at 99 years old adhered to God's command for all males in his household to be circumcised as a sign of the covenant he had with God. [A side note:  The last time I read about Abraham and his covenant with God, I wondered how he felt at 99 years of age; because they didn't have anesthesia to ease the pain and discomfort of circumcision.]
Let's continue with covenants: Today, everyone who believes in Jesus won't have to cut themselves to be in covenant with God; because Jesus shed His precious blood on our behalf over 2,000 years ago on Mount Calvary. God loved the world so much {even when it hated Him} that He gave His only begotten Son (John 3:16-17). Anyone, who believes in Jesus will not perish {eternally}, but have everlasting life. What is everlasting life, you might ask? Let's look at the definition below:

EVERLASTING: adjective: 1. lasting forever; eternal, everlasting future life.

Did you notice that everlasting means forever? This means that we will all have an everlasting future life after we die. Contrary to what many people believe: death is not the final curtain for humanity. We were created in God's image. He is a Spirit and we are spirit-beings or tri-part beings. This means that you are a spirit; you have a soul and you live in a physical body. After you die, your flesh will go back to the dust, but you {as a spirit} will continue to live on. Anyone, who believes in Jesus as Lord and Savior will be saved (Romans 10:9-10) and go to heaven, when they die.

"Therefore we are always confident and know that while we at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord; for we walk by faith, not by sight. We are courageous, I say, and are willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:6-7_WEB)."
Preparing for our eternal future is important; but some people put more time in preparing for a trip and don't know if they will even return home, though they expect they will. Do you believe that God loves you with an everlasting love? Well, if you don't, your unbelief with not cancel out that love, for God showed that love to all mankind, when He gave His only Son. God's love for you has been recorded!

HELLnoun
  1. 1.
a place regarded in various religions as a spiritual realm of evil and suffering, often traditionally depicted as a place of perpetual fire beneath the earth where the wicked are punished after death.

Hell is a real and damnable place that many people prefer not to talk about. But, being ignorant of a thing is what causes fear of it. It's important you know that God created hell for the devil {or Satan} and his angels. Before Satan became a devil, he was an angel of light in Heaven and was named Lucifer. He was music; and he played instruments from his very being. He praised God day and night with heavenly music and praises. In all his grandeur, Lucifer became proud of his status in heaven and sought a spiritual insurrection against God with the help of one-third of the angels. What he said and desired to do was recorded in Scripture and is referenced below:
"I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High (Isaiah 14:12_KJV)."
"How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit (Isaiah 14:13-15_KJV)."
EDEN was God's original plan for mankind: not hell. Unfortunately, after the fall of Lucifer, hell enlarged itself. Because of Satan's hatred of God, he began to deceive many humans, so they would reject God and His Son and join him for eternity.
"Therefore my people are gone into captivity for lack of knowledge; and their honorable men are famished, and their multitude are parched with thirst. Therefore Sheol {Hell} hath enlarged its desire, and opened its mouth without measure; and their glory; and their multitude; and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth among them descend into it (Isaiah 5: 13-15_ASV)."
.
Many people consider God cruel, because Satan has deceived many into believing that God sends good people to hell; but as you can see from the  previous Scriptures, that is NOT the truth! The problem lies with man and what he chooses to believe. Many people believe in God, but they don't believe in His Son Jesus. Sadly, this poses a problem, because Jesus taught in the Gospels and said often: "I and the Father are One." To accept God is to accept Jesus and to reject God is to reject Jesus. One cannot just accept God alone. We must confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord (Romans 10:9-10). Although, the Bible records the birth, life, ministry, suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus; many people consider Him only a prophet. Jesus is much more than a  prophet; He is the Savior of the world, because He suffered, bled and died for the world. He is the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world!

Here's where covenant comes in again. To reject Jesus is to accept Satan by default. No decision about a thing, is still a decision. God doesn't send people to hell; but it IS true that those, who reject His Son Jesus will suffer eternal damnation in HELL with Satan himself. I share this not to put fear in your heart; but to give you vital information and to provoke your thinking. No one on earth will be able to live forever in these flesh houses of clay. We were created from the dust of the earth and back to the dust we will return, when we are buried.

One day, Jesus will return for the great catching away of His church {the Bride of Christ}, which Christians call the Rapture. No man knows the day or the hour, only God the Father.

"...But of that day and hour knoweth no one, not even the angels of heaven, neither the Son, but the Father only. And as were the days of Noah, so shall be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days which were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and they knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall be the coming of the Son of man...(Matthew 24:36-39_ASV)
"For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with God's trumpet. The dead in Christ will rise first, then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air. So we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore comfort one another with these words (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18_WEB)."

You must decide today with whom you want to covenant. You will either enjoy the benefits of God's covenant or suffer the benefits of Satan's covenant. If you're not in covenant with the Lord; you are in covenant with the devil and he has nothing for you, but death and destruction. Because we are spirits, we will still have our five (5) senses and whatever we experience in heaven or hell will never stop. Satan's primary aim from the beginning of time {Eden} has always been to see mankind destroyed and apart from God's love.
"The thief (Satan) enters {the sheep fold} only to steal, kill, and destroy. I came so that they could have life-indeed, so that they could live life to the fullest (John 10:10_CEB) #Jesus
For years, I lived for the devil and according to the dictates of my flesh; but one day, I had an encounter with Jesus and he saved me from sin and its nature. Everything wasn't perfect after that; but I had the Father, Son and Holy Spirit to help me on my spiritual journey. I am yet journeying {running in this Christian race}, learning and growing in the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. I have have made some stupid mistakes; but God in His mercy, forgave my sins and cleansed me from all that is unrighteous in His sight (1 John 1:19). I continue to learn to trust God more each day, because He desires to take His children from faith to faith. God has a perfect plan for me; but He also has a perfect plan for you (Jeremiah 29:11). Will you consider entering into a covenant with Him? You won't regret it if you do it today; but you will regret it, when you discover that you could have made a better decision that can't be reversed.

In your reading, you have learned that COVENANTS are important in both our spiritual and everyday lives; and so I invite you to pray the following prayer and invite Jesus into your heart as your Lord and Savior:
Father God, I believe that You sent Your Son, Jesus Christ to die on the cross for my sins. I believe that He died, was resurrected and is coming back to judge the living and the dead. Father, I repent. Please forgive me of all my sins. Come into my heart and make me Your child. In the Name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen. If you prayed this prayer, you are BORN AGAIN by God's Spirit (John 3:3-6_KJV). #Hallelujah!
Please find a Bible-believing and teaching church, where you may fellowship with others, and covenant with God; as you grow in your faith and the grace and knowledge of God (2 Peter 3:18).

Thank you for taking the time to view and read my post. I pray that you were informed, inspired and persuaded to enter into an eternal covenant with our Creator God!
Remember that Jesus is LORD!
